Active Listening
Sole Survivor offers confidential one-to-one Active Listening for adults over 18 years of age.
We create non-judgemental spaces for our clients to offload in a safe environment by using unconditional positive regard, congruence, empathy and lived experience of PTSD.
Sole Survivor operates within the ethical framework of the BCAP / CPCAB BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions
Sole Survivor ’s Paraprofessional Active Listeners have completed counselling training on CPCAB courses CPCAB – Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body attaining CST Level 3 qualifications as a minimum Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3) and have supervision on a monthly basis from a third party provider; details on request.
Sole Survivor also offers placements to trainee counsellors at Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4) level who may facilitate the Active Listening appointments, and also often have lived experience of PTSD and trauma.
Terms
Active Listening by trained accredited Paraprofessionals should not be perceived to be, or substituted for either Therapeutic Counselling or Psychotherapy; Paraprofessional Counsellors are trained in Counselling skills, but at a level below that of Professional Counsellors or accredited Psychotherapist’s.
Active Listening is not always useful for everyone — in particular, those with acute Mental Health conditions that would require the services of NHS Early Intervention or Crisis Teams.
Sessions duration: A “Counselling Hour” which is 50 minutes, and can be facilitated either online, on the telephone or face to face.
On receipt and processing of the referral form to ensure suitability of service, clients will be offered an appointment within 24hrs for a fee of £30.00 per session. Method of delivery will be confirmed with the client at time of confirmation of booking.
Sole Survivor requires payment to be made prior to the appointment, refunds are given in receipt of written, SMS text or verbal notice 12 hours before an appointment is due to start.

Referrals to Associate Practitioners
All associate therapists are independent and self employed as practitioners who are regulated by their respective member organisations. Associate therapists will have their own individual terms and conditions. For any referral that is made it is important to check on these contractual arrangements and to appraise yourself fully of all agreements and expectations between yourself and the associate therapist. All associate practitioners operate independently of Sole Survivor PTSD Support C.I.C and Sole Survivor PTSD Support C.I.C is not responsible for any issues that arise subsequent to an agreed referral. Any concerns should be raised directly with the associate therapist or with their member organisation.
It is strongly advised that if you are concerned about any aspect of your physical or psychological well being that you consult with your GP for an up to date evaluation of your health needs.
Confidentiality and Record Keeping
Confidentiality is an essential part of all counselling and psychotherapy. Sole Survivor PTSD Support C.I.C holds all records and personal contact details securely and will ensure confidentiality in the treatment of any information held about its clients, in line with the Code of Ethics of the BACP.
